What is The Feldenkrais Method®?

The Feldenkrais Method is an innovative approach to increasing awareness of how our bodies and minds function. It provides strategies and tools to help create more efficient movement, reduce pain, and improve flexibility and strength.

Practicing Feldenkrais® regularly (in classes, workshops, individually at home or in individual one-on-one sessions) will support you to live an active, comfortable life that is free of pain and that allows you to do all the activities you desire. We all experience physical aches and pains whether it be from injuries, repetitive movements, or daily activities such as gardening, lifting, running, or sitting at a computer. As a trained practitioner, my classes and individual sessions can help you to become aware of how you use your body as well as to understand your current patterns that may be contributing to your pain or issues.

Who it’s for:

Learning to move with less effort and more clarity makes daily life more pleasant, easier, and more carefree. Everyone, from construction workers to dancers to athletes to office workers to musicians, can benefit from the Feldenkrais Method. Feldenkrais® can be particularly helpful for the following situations:

● PAIN

Feldenkrais is well known for its effectiveness in helping people with pain, whether acute or chronic. Some do the work for brief periods to help with a discrete short-term problem such as an injury, while others work on more complex issues and long-term chronic pain. Feldenkrais work is not a replacement for medical care, but it can be a powerful supplement and can help people who haven’t otherwise been able to find relief.

● TRAUMA & ANXIETY

Feldenkrais is used by many people to help reduce the habitual body patterns associated with anxiety and trauma. Re-experiencing your body in a safe environment allows you to accelerate your recovery and learn to reduce the experience of feelings of anxiety in more stressful situations.

● PREVENTION/ AGING

More efficient movement means avoiding a lot of the problems that begin to become more prominent as we age. Feldenkrais allows us to rediscover ways of moving we thought were lost forever and allows us to feel younger than we believed we could.

● PERFORMANCE

Athletes, actors, dancers, singers, musicians and performers of all kinds can find ways to improve their skill by reducing the effects of habits, biases, and tendencies while also making new discoveries that lead to better movement and better results.

● CHILDREN

The Feldenkrais Method is widely used for helping children and adults with motor development problems, cognitive struggles, and the difficulties associated with disorders that make communication and connecting with others problematic

● SELF-KNOWLEDGE

Feldenkrais is a powerful way to better understand the self. Many people simply use the method as a tool for self exploration and development like yoga, martial arts and meditation.

● OTHER

This list is not an exhaustive list of cases we have seen but only the most common cases we encounter. I realize that you may have rare or unique issues so I will adjust my work to your specific needs. The Feldenkrais Method deals with the way the nervous system organizes itself to accomplish everything we do, and so the only limit to its potential applications is the imagination and intelligence of the practitioner.
